Hate crimes in the UK
have reached record levels, driven by terrorist attacks and the Brexit referendum. According to the Home Office
, there were 80,393 hate crimes in the 12 months to March this year, an increase of 30 percent. In 2016/17, 62,685 of the hate crimes
were race related, 9,157 were connected with sexual orientation, 5,949 were religious in nature, 5,558 were related to disability while 1,248 were aimed at transgender people.
