Accommodation companies are investing much more in building new hotels than converting and renovating existing ones in Europe. In 2021, 17.9 billion euros were invested in new hotel construction, whereas just 2.8 billion euros were spent on conversions and renovations. Independent hotels own more properties than chains but are losing ground.
