With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the festive season is well and truly upon us. Around the world, many have begun decorating their homes in preparation for Christmas, now only a few short weeks away. Results from a recent Statista Consumer Insights show that a majority of respondents in the U.S. will begin their Christmas before December. But how many gifts do people expect to buy this year?
As our infographic shows, the response varies only slightly in the countries included in the survey. In Germany, Mexico and Brazil, respondents were most likely to say they would be purchasing between 4 and 5 gifts this year, slightly less than in France, the United Kingdom and the United States where the most common answer was between 6 and 10 gifts.
In terms of expenditure, 37 percent of the people surveyed in the U.S. in October and November expected to spend a similar amount on Christmas presents this year as they did last year; 31 percent said they would be spending more, while 23 percent were planning on spending less.
