Canada: top 10 online stores by revenue 2018

As of 2018, B2C e-commerce retail revenue in Canada amounted to almost US$24.0 billion, and is expected to surpass US$32.5 billion by 2023. Amazon, Inc., with both international and canadian domains, dominate the top online stores in Canada. The online store of the Canadian subsidiary of Costco Wholesale gets the third position with more than US$1.0 billion.

Much more than an online store

Amazon.com. is an international e-commerce company offering online retail, computing services, consumer electronics, digital content as well as other local services such as daily deals and groceries. The majority of the company’s revenues are generated through e-retail sales of electronics and other products, followed by third-party seller revenues, subscription services and AWS activities. Due to Amazon’s global scope and reach, it is also considered one of the most valuable brands worldwide. The online retailer does not only lead in terms of desktop retailing but has also taken to mobile commerce. Amazon Mobile is one of the most popular retail apps in the United States. The Amazon smartphone app is also the second-most popular purchase channel of Amazon buyers in the United States.

Its Canadian sister gets the third position

Costco Wholesale Canada, Ltd. is a subsidiary of Costco Wholesale Corporation. This American company runs a chain of big-box stores which resemble warehouses and sells a wide variety of wholesale products. Some of the different departments in which they operate include grocery, appliances, baked goods, electronics, apparel, and books, among many others, as well as offering a food court in many of their establishments. Many branches also offer optical services, gas stations, tire garages, or photo processing services. The company was founded in 1983 in Washington State, and has since opened warehouses in ten other countries.
