In 2021, Venice was one of the leading Italian cities based on the number of chain hotels. Ranking third in the list, after Rome and Milan, the city reported a total of 76 hotels belonging to chains. Moreover, Venice was the most expensive city in Italy to book an overnight stay in a four-star hotel as of June 2022.

Non-hotel establishments and Airbnb listings in Venice

Like the hotels, the number of non-hotel establishments in the municipality of Venice dropped in 2021 over the previous year. In 2021, there were approximately 32 thousand non-hotel accommodation establishments in the city. In this respect, an important role was undoubtedly played by Airbnb. According to a study, Venice ranked fourth in the list of Italian cities with the highest number of Airbnb listings as of November 2019. That year, most of the Airbnb listings of the city were entire homes or apartments.
