The number of tourist arrivals in Venice, including international and domestic visitors, bounced back in 2022, following a sharp drop with the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Despite the significant increase, tourist arrivals in the city remained below pre-pandemic levels, reaching around 4.6 million in 2022.

In 2022, the number of international tourist arrivals in Venice reached just under four million, showing the importance of international visitors for the city's travel and tourism industries. That year, the United States was the leading inbound tourist market for Venice, with around 725 thousand arrivals.

Accommodation in Venice

The number of hotels and other travel accommodation establishments in Venice’s city center decreased in 2022 compared to the previous year. Overall, La Serenessima – as the city is colloquially called – recorded roughly 500 such tourist establishments in its historical center. Considering the popularity of this destination, it does not surprise that Venice was the most expensive Italian city based on the average price per night in a four-star hotel as of June 2023.
