Share of women political offices in Sweden 1973-2019
As of 2019, the overall share of women in political leadership positions was record high and close to fifty percent in the major areas Council of State (Statssråd), Secreatary of State (Statssekreterare), and Chief administrative officers (Chefstjänstemän). In the last fifty years, a significant change can be observed. To give an example, in 1973, there were zero women represented in the Swedish Secretary of State, and in 2019, fifty percent of the representatives were female. That being said, as of January 2020, Sweden is the only Nordic country that has still not had a female prime minister.
