New internal displacements prompted by disasters in LAC in 2021, by country

In 2021, there were approximately 1.7 million new displacements caused by disasters in Latin America and the Caribbean region. Of those, 449,000 was reported in Brazil, which was affected by an extremely active season of storms and floods, that also impacted other South American countries such as Venezuela and Colombia. In the Caribbean basin, the hurricanes Ida and Elsa triggered most displacements, especially in Cuba.
