CO2 emissions from fuel combustion APAC 1990-2021, by subregion
In 2021, approximately 16.6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) were emitted across Asian countries. This marked an increase from the previous year, when CO2 emissions in Asia decreased for the first time in the past 30 years. China was by far the biggest CO2 emitter in the APAC region, emitting about 10.5 billion metric tons in 2021. Contrasting the consistent upward trend across Asia, CO2 emissions in the Pacific countries were more volatile, decreasing further compared to 2020.
