According to a survey conducted in July 2022, over 80 percent of respondents in Japan who were aware of IC credit cards also used them. Around 11.5 percent did not use their cards at all or primarily used the magnetic stripe or contactless payment function of their card.

The number of respondents collected for the survey was determined based on the population by age group and sex and the "credit card ownership rate by age group and sex" in a preliminary survey.
