Global per capita energy consumption by select country 2015

Energy consumption per capita globally in 2015, by select country (in kilograms of oil equivalent)

by T. Wang, last edited Jul 4, 2019
Global per capita energy consumption by select country 2015 Four of the top six per capita energy consumers were located in the Middle East, with the exception of Iceland and Trinidad and Tobago. The per capita energy consumption was the highest in Qatar and totaled 17.9 metric tons of oil equivalent per capita, in comparison to the energy consumption of Iceland at 17.5 metric tons of oil equivalent per capita. Many of the top energy consumer countries are large producers of oil and natural gas. Energy consumption includes all energy from every energy source for human endeavors.
Differences in energy consumption

There is a large disparity between the highest energy users and the lowest users. Countries with a colder climate tend to use more energy to heat their homes. Energy producers also use more energy as energy costs are much lower. The energy consumption disparity is a strong indicator of the different income levels around the world. Energy consumption levels may also decrease during times of economic recession and are largely tied to economic prosperity.
