Chocolate: production volume by product group Germany 2022

The most manufactured chocolate product in Germany were filled bars, with over 369,000 tons produced in 2022. White chocolate, on the other hand, was produced in significantly lower quantities.

Setting the bar

German consumers do love their chocolate, with per capita sales of chocolate products increasing annually in recent decades. Based on estimates for 2022, around 5.84 kilograms were sold per person. As with other food categories, fair trade is also a relevant topic regarding chocolate products. Most recently, sales revenues from this type of chocolate amounted to roughly 84.7 million euros, a significant increase compared to earlier years. These figures reflect the growing pursuit of ethical and sustainable consumption across food product categories.

Ritter Sport

One of the best-known German chocolate creations is Ritter Sport, with its characteristic square shape. According to a recent survey, the brand had a high awareness level, with 94 percent of respondents knowing of it. 61 percent of those surveyed attested to the snack's popularity.
