Between 2012 and 2022, the number of poultry reared in Italy was affected by considerable fluctuations but with an overall growth. As of 2012, there were approximately 2.82 million animals reared under organic production methods in Italy. The value increased during the following years, reaching over 4.6 million heads in 2016 before dropping back down to 3.5 million in 2018. By 2022, the number of poultry reared under organic methods in the country had peaked at close to 6.2 million heads.
