In India, scheduled caste, scheduled tribe (SC/ST) and other backward classes (OBC) are officially recognized by the constitution as groups of disadvantaged indigenous people, providing special provisions for their betterment, implementing a 'positive discrimination'. Most education scholarships and student aid is available to minorities belonging to these castes or tribes among others.
