Tim Hortons is a franchise of limited-service restaurants that specializes in coffee but also sells baked goods, lunch and breakfast. Founded in Ontario, Canada in 1964, it became highly popular in its home country and now has a total of almost five thousand establishments globally. Comparatively, Popeyes is one of the world's largest limited-service restaurant chicken concepts with over three thousand restaurants in the U.S. and 25 other countries around the world. Well-known restaurant chain, Burger King, on the other hand, is a U.S.-based limited-service burger restaurant founded in 1957. In the years since it has grown to operate nearly 18 thousand units worldwide, and is the largest restaurant chain in the Restaurant Brands International portfolio.
In 2017, Restaurant Brands achieved over 32 billion U.S. dollars’ worth in system-wide sales. With sales that accounted for over 21 billion U.S. dollars Burger King came out above both Tim Hortons and Popeyes who raised almost 7 billion and almost 4 billion U.S. dollars in sales respectively.
