In a year which saw the brutal killing of Jamal Khashoggi and the subsequent award of Time Person of the Year to him and other journalists
that have been killed or imprisoned, the number of journalists behind bars around the world has shown little sign of letting up. According to the latest estimates
by the Committee to Protect Journalists, there were 251 jailed as of 1 December 2018. This represents only a small decrease on last year's 262 and a continued high level when compared to the beginning of the century.
