In 2020 the unprecedented decrease in international travel due to the coronavirus pandemic had a similarly devastating effect on revenue generated by tourism. In the US, international tourist receipts dropped to 63.7 billion euros, down from 178.1 billion in the previous year. While many countries saw their international tourist receipts drop by around two thirds, France fared comparatively well, generating 28.5 billion euros in 2020. Just over half the amount in tourist receipts generated in the previous year.
