Top Facebook advertisers in the UK in 2019, in terms of impressions

The leading advertiser on Facebook in the United Kingdom (UK), in terms of number of impressions during the last quarter of 2019, was Spotify. With one and a half billion impressions, the music streaming service outdid giffgaff and retail giant Tesco Plc.  

UK leads social media advertising market

As of 2020, the UK is market leader when it comes to social media advertising in Europe. It is estimated to bring in a revenue of nearly six billion U.S. dollars by the end of the year, over three times that of Germany in second place. Facebook is the biggest player when it comes to social media advertising in the UK, with an estimated 80 percent market share. This is followed by Twitter, LinkedIn and Snapchat, at 5 percent market share each.

Mobile advertising and its audience

Where will most of the revenue made through social media come from? Forecasts show that mobile advertising will continue to account for the majority of revenue generated within the UK, compared to desktop. By 2024, this is expected to reach 5.6 billion U.S. dollars while desktop will account for nearly 2.3 billion. As of January 2020, millennials aged between 25 to 34 years made up social media advertising’s largest audience. This was followed by those aged 35 to 44.
