Best results obtained by the Italian men's national rugby team 2020
The best results obtained by the men's national rugby team in Italy all related to competitions held prior to 1998. Between 1936 and 1938, Italy took part in the tournaments organized by the International Amateur Rugby Federation (FIRA). In the FIRA tournaments, Italy ranked once third in 1936 and once second in 1937. After the stop caused by the Second World War, the FIRA organized the Rugby Union European Cup in 1952 and 1954. The Italian men's national team ranked second in both the editions of the competition. Between 1965 and 1997, the FIRA organized other two tournaments: the FIRA Nations Cup and the FIRA Trophy. The last edition of the FIRA Trophy, played in 1997, was won by the Italian team. In 2000, Italy joined the Five Nations Championships, renamed Six Nations Championships after the addition of the Italian team. Thereafter, Italy did not participate in any other FIRA tournaments. In 2014, the International Amateur Rugby Federation changed its name to Rugby Europe.
