Singapore: enterprises engaging in e-commerce activities by sector 2019

In 2019, both the wholesale and retail trade, as well as the education, sectors were the leading enterprises that engaged in e-commerce activities in Singapore, with 26 percent of surveyed respondents for each sector stating they did so. E-commerce activities as a result of internet technology advancement have been seen by many enterprises as a vehicle to reduce costs and improve productivity.

The source defined e-commerce activities as follows: "An e-commerce transaction is the sale or purchase of goods or services over computer-mediated networks (broad definition)/ the Internet (narrow definition). Payment and delivery of the good or service can be offline. Orders received/placed by telephone, fax or normal mail are excluded (This definition was adopted from OECD)."
