Spending on pensions in Italy 2000-2019
The expenditure on pensions in Italy accounted for 16.8 percent of the GDP in 2019. Regionally, the Southern region of Calabria recorded the highest expenditure on pensions in relation to its GDP, while Trentino-South Tyrol, in the North, had the lowest spending in proportion to the GDP. Overall, the data include all pensions: old-age, work injury, retirement, disability, sickness, and similar pensions. In Italy, the total social expenditure amounts to 28.2 percent of the country's GDP, some of the highest among the OECD countries.
