The number of European cruise ship calls recorded at ports worldwide decreased sharply in the first two years of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic compared to 2019. In May and June 2020, European cruise ship calls reported the highest drop, declining by 85 percent over the previous year. In 2022, this scenario improved, with the number of calls by European cruises being 28 percent lower in June 2022 than in 2019.
