Traditionally, people in China travel to meet their relatives and celebrate the Spring festival together. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the government encouraged people to stay home and send virtual holiday greetings to their families instead. According to a survey conducted in China in January 2022, almost 61 percent of respondents were willing to send Chinese New Year's greetings to their families and friends online as opposed to in person.
