Based on an online survey, WhatsApp was registered as the favorite social network in Africa, with varying proportions in four out of six nations. In Ghana, over 50 percent of the respondents said that the media platform was their favorite. WhatsApp was also the most popular in Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, with 41 percent, 39 percent, and 37 percent, respectively. Facebook was most preferred in Egypt and Morocco, with 36 percent and 41 percent of the respondents, respectively.

The source adds that figures are based on online population and not the total population. This means that, in certain markets including Africa, internet penetration rates are low, indicating that online individuals in these regions are younger, urbanized, affluent, and more educated than the total population.
