Volkswagen Group: number of employees globally 2008-2023
Globally, Volkswagen Group employed around 676,000 people in 2023, up from 669,000 in 2022. During a press conference in 2019, Volkswagen announced that there would be a reduction in workforce between 2019 and 2023, but employee figures increased in both 2022 and 2023. Staff cuts were made by other traditional automotive manufacturers: General Motors' workforce was cut by some 25,000 employees over four years before employee figures increased in 2021 and 2022.
