Number of tigers in India 2006-2018

It was estimated that there were around 2,967 tigers living in India in 2018. When the country's tiger conservation program, Project Tiger was launched in 1973, the striped big cat was almost on the verge of extinction. With increased and focused efforts in conservation, the program has been a definitive success.
