Return on equity (ROE) of ABN AMRO Group 2013-2023
The return on equity (ROE) of ABN AMRO Group fluctuated considerably between 2013 and 2023. In 2023, the ABN AMRO Group reached a ROE of 12.2 percent. This was a sharp increase when compared to the previous year, when ABN AMRO reported a ROE of 8.7 percent. This indicates the profitability of ABN AMRO increased between 2022 and 2023.
Banking is an important service industry in the Netherlands, being responsible for the funding of both international as well as domestic trade. Dutch banking has two important characteristics. Firstly, only a few large institutions dominate its financial markets. In 2021, for example, the five largest Dutch credit institutions, which includes ING, Rabobank and ABN AMRO, held approximately 85 percent of the total assets. Secondly, the Dutch banking sector is one of the most concentrated in Europe.
