Europe: share of people who ski as of 2019, by country

These results of an annual survey show how participation in different snow sport activities by people in the United Kingdom (UK), who go on snow sport holidays, changed over several years. While regular alpine skiing has slightly decreased, off-piste skiing and snowboarding have slightly increased. Cross-country skiing and ski touring have not changed much in attendance.

UK has third most skiers in Europe

Skiing is by far the most popular winter sport in Europe and Europe is the skiing capital worldwide. When it comes to the number of people who ski in Europe, Germany trails by far with approximately 14.6 million people who went skiing in 2019, followed by France and the UK.

Most popular locations

As much as 37 percent of worldwide ski resorts are located in the Alps, which stretch across eight European countries. With 44 percent the Alps host close to half of all skier visits globally. As much as people from western Europe visit them, also Americans make up the same proportion of visitors.
