In late December, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the occupied Palestinian territory
showing that 2018 saw a record number of Palestinian deaths and injuries. In total, 298 Palestinians were killed and more than 29,000 were injured in 2018, the highest total since OCHA started documenting casualties in 2005.
61 percent of the fatalities and 79 percent of the injuries in 2018 occurred near Gaza's border fence
. According to the OCHA, 28 of the Palestinians killed by Israeli forces were members of armed groups in Gaza while another 15 were perpetrators or alleged perpetrators of attacks against Israelis in the West Bank. 14 Israelis were also killed in 2018 while 137 were injured.
OCHA also recorded 265 incidents of Israeli settlers killing or injuring Palestinians or destroying their property, a 69 percent increase on 2017. There were 181 incidents where Palestinians killed or injured settlers/Israeli civilians or damaged property in the West Bank.
