FAQs
What data does Consumer AI use?
Consumer Insights survey data only. It does not pull from statista.com statistics, Market Insights reports, news sources, or any external data.
Every figure in an answer comes from a Statista consumer survey and is linked to its source. If the data does not cover your question, the tool will tell you.

Does Consumer AI understand synonyms and different phrasing?
Generally, yes. The underlying model handles synonyms and related terms — "thrift stores" and "secondhand apparel" are understood as related, for example.
The limit is survey definitions: if a concept was defined in a specific way when the survey was fielded, the tool works with that definition. It cannot reinterpret how something was categorized.

What is the difference between a template and a regular Consumer AI answer?
A template gives you a structured output tailored to the type of analysis. A Consumer AI answer responds in a flexible format based on your question.
A template is a guided, structured output designed for a specific task such as tracking brand performance. Templates prompt for the key inputs and return a consistent layout, which makes results easier to repeat and compare.

How do I compare countries or track trends over time?
For country comparisons: ask Consumer AI to compare up to three countries within a single answer, or create a target group, apply it to one country at a time in Charts, download each result, and compare.
For trend tracking: open the same chart across different waves and download each.

Why can't I apply my target group in a certain country?
A target group is only applicable in countries where its defining questions were asked. If an attribute you used to define the group was not surveyed in a particular country, it will not be available, though it may still apply elsewhere.
Can I edit an exported PowerPoint?
Yes. Exported PowerPoints are fully editable. All text, charts, data descriptions, and source attributions in the exported file are editable.
Can I use Consumer Insights data in other AI tools?
Yes. The "Copy for AI" button on any chart formats the data, with its source, for pasting into a tool like ChatGPT or Claude. Keep in mind the data stays under Statista's terms: it's for your own analysis, and it can't be used to train or improve an AI model.
