Target groups
A target group is a custom audience you define. Combine demographics, behaviors, and attitudes to build a group, then filter your analysis through it or compare it against the broader population.
For example: "Women aged 25 to 34 in Germany who bought secondhand clothing in the past 12 months." Everyone in the survey data who matches that definition is part of the group.
A target group applies across Charts, questions, and exports. Define it once instead of re-filtering at each step.
Two ways to build a target group
1. Save a suggested group
When your question is about a group of people, Consumer AI builds a matching audience and shows it under the answer.

- Hide: Dismiss it.
- Edit in builder: Open it in the builder to adjust before saving.
- Save: Keep it for later without applying it now.
- Save & Apply: Keep it and apply it to your current analysis.
2. Build one yourself from scratch
Open Target Groups from the left sidebar and select Create Target Group.
- Choose your region. Determines which attributes are available.
- Pick a survey. Sets the pool of questions you can build from.
- Add your attributes. Combine filters like demographics, behaviors, and attitudes to build a precise audience profile.
Watch the base.
A live respondent count updates as you build. Below 100, a low-base flag appears so you can see exactly how many people match your criteria. - Save. The group is available across Charts, questions, and exports.
Applying a target group
Apply a saved group from the Target Groups button on the prompt box, or from the filter in Charts. Your analysis is scoped to that audience until you change or clear it.
Target group vs the Profile a target group template
A target group is the saved audience you build and reuse.
The Profile a target group template is a starting point in Consumer AI. Describe a group in plain language and get back a structured profile of who they are, how they behave, and how to reach them. The template describes an audience; a target group is the saved audience you apply.
Where a target group applies
A target group works only in countries where all its defining attributes were asked. If an attribute was asked only in Germany, the group won't apply in France.
A greyed-out tool, country, or question means the group doesn't apply to that combination. This is expected behavior, not an error.
