Car dealership profitability in the United Kingdom (UK) 2014-2019, by month

In November 2019, car dealers in the United Kingdom recorded a loss of 11,000 British pounds per site. In the same month the year before, dealerships saw a profit of 8,500 British pounds per site.
Greatest profits were generally recorded during March, as this was the month when the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency issued new registration plates, which contributed to larger car sales overall in that month.

Profit share of sales

Between February 2018 and 2019, car dealers in the UK made a net profit of 0.99 percent of sales. The peak in profit shares was seen between 2013 and 2014, when dealerships made an average profit of 1.46 percent of sales. Since then figures steadily declined.

Sales per salesperson

In terms of sales per salesperson, fiscal year 2018/19 proved to be the second year in a row that numbers increased. That year, sales equaled 162 units per every salesperson in a motor dealership. Similar to profit shares recorded above, 2013/14 proved to be the peak year, with an average of 192 sales per salesperson.
