Xiaomi shipments worldwide 2014-2022
Chinese smartphone brand sales
China was forecasted to be the leading market for smartphone shipments in the world with around 26 percent of market share by 2020. In 2021 alone, 330 million smartphones were shipped in China, which has already decreased from the peak of over 460 million back in 2016. Both South Korean vendor Samsung and American tech giant Apple still have a significant presence in the Chinese smartphone market. Yet, these brands are seeing their share drop rather consistently. With their sleek and affordable smartphones models, Chinese brands have been gaining space in the market over the years, and are projected to continue this takeover in the next few years. In 2013, Chinese vendor Lenovo sold about 40 million smartphones in the country; only Samsung sold more devices in China that year. In 2014, both Lenovo and Huawei sold more smartphones in China than Apple, while Samsung still maintained the market lead. By 2019, Chinese brands Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo have already dominated half of the market altogether.
During the staggering growth and subsequently dipping sales of smartphone shipments in China in the last few years, Huawei lost its market share in 2020. Worldwide, Xiaomi, Oppo, and vivo have a decent share of smartphones shipments. Together, they accounted around a third of all smartphone shipments in the world in 2022. Along with these top three Chinese vendors, there are other smartphone brands on the rise in China.
