For over 30 years, the International Coastal Cleanup has seen communities across the world rallying together to document and remove trash from beaches and waterways. The most recent effort saw 2.4 million cigarette butts documented and collected in coastal areas over a 24-hour period, along with 1.7 million food wrappers and 1.6 million plastic bottles. The sheer scale of the plastic trash collected in 24 hours further illustrates the scale of the planet's plastic pollution problem.
