According to a 2021 study, nearly three-quarters (71 percent) of the total fraud costs incurred by e-commerce merchants in the United States were associated with domestic transactions. In 2022, the proportion of total fraud costs attributed to domestic transactions for online merchants reduced to about 63 percent, while the remaining 37 percent was attributed to international fraud.
