Production volume of organic meat in Finland 2013-2023
Finland's organic meat production has shown growth over the past decade, reaching 4.36 million kilograms in 2023. This figure represents a slight decrease from the previous year but remains significantly higher than the 2.87 million kilograms produced in 2013. The organic meat sector in Finland has become an increasingly important part of the country's agricultural landscape, reflecting growing consumer demand for sustainably produced food products.
Beef dominates organic meat production in Finland
Organic beef has consistently been the front-runner in Finland's organic meat industry. In 2022, organic beef production peaked at 3.55 million kilograms, accounting for the majority of the country's organic meat output. The share of organic beef in Finland's total beef production has been steadily increasing, reaching 4.2 percent in 2023. This upward trend highlights the growing consumer demand for sustainably produced beef products.
Diversification in organic meat products
While beef leads the organic meat sector, organic pork, lamb, and poultry are produced in Finland too. Organic pork production reached 0.59 million kilograms in 2023, with its highest volume of nearly one million kilograms recorded in 2016. The share of organic pork in total pork production has remained relatively stable, hovering between 0.37 and 0.76 percent from 2014 to 2023. Organic lamb production, though smaller in volume, contributed 0.22 million kilograms to the total organic meat output in 2023. This diversity in organic meat offerings is meeting the varied consumer preferences while maintaining sustainable farming practices.
