Opinions on adapting traditional look Black Pete in the Netherlands 2017-2018 This statistic illustrates the answers to the following survey question: "In your opinion, what should happen to the traditional look of Zwarte Piet (Black Pete)?" Black Pete is the fictional aid of Sinterklaas, a local variation of Santa Claus in the Netherlands and Belgium. Due to his traditional black appearance, it has been publicly discussed in those countries whether Black Pete should change its appearance. As of 2017, 26 percent of respondents thought the look of Black Pete should be adapted, whereas over two thirds of respondents found it shouldn't be adapted. By 2018, the share of people in favor of adapting Black Pete's look had increased to 28 percent.
