Debit card penetration in 38 countries in Europe 2021
In 2021, the share of the adult population in European countries that owned a debit card varied between 27 percent in Albania to as high as 99 percent in Denmark. This is according to a 3-year survey held across multiple countries. Interestingly, the usage of debit cards varies between the countries. The Netherlands, for example, had relatively more debit card owners than Sweden, but the Scandinavian country had more debit cards users among its population 15 years and up.
