UK: Tier 1 capital of largest banks 2023

HSBC had the highest amount of Tier 1 capital among the five largest banks in the United Kingdom in 2023. The British banking giant reported a Tier 1 capital of roughly 113.3 billion British pounds. HSBC was followed by Barclays and Lloyds Banking Group. Tier 1 capital displays the financial strength of a bank as it shows the bank’s core capital, including equity capital and disclosed reserves. Regulators use tier 1 capital for the purpose of ensuring that banks have enough capital in case of unexpected losses.
