Theresa May survived a vote of no confidence last night. The vote was instigated by her own party and, as our explainer chart shows, she can now not be challenged again for another twelve months. The result was hardly overwhelming though, with 200 votes in her favour but a significant 117 against, leading to renewed calls for her resignation. The prime minister has already stated that she will step down as party leader before the 2022 general election, meaning that a leadership race is definitely on the horizon for the party. The process to find a new leader as described in this infographic also serves as an overview of how this situation will play out. So far, May has not indicated when she intends to leave her post.
