U.S. market share of leading energy drink brands 2018, based on dollar sales

Market share of leading energy drink brands in the United States in 2018, based on dollar sales

by Jan Conway, last edited May 2, 2019
U.S. market share of leading energy drink brands 2018, based on dollar sales Red Bull captured over a quarter of the energy drinks market in the United States in 2018. That market share translates to around 2.89 billion U.S. dollars in sales. Founded in Thailand in 1987, the beverage was based on an existing Thai drink named Krating Daeng, with which Red Bull shares its logo.
Clever marketing

Part of the appeal of the beverage may be in part to its advertising. The brand, valued at nearly twelve million U.S. dollars in 2018, has taken an unconventional approach to marketing. It has created extreme sports events such as the Red Bull Air Race and the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series and owns multiple sports teams in racing and soccer. Clever television advertising also helped Red Bull become a household name. In the 4th quarter of 2018, the brand ranked third in television beverage advertising, with the brand’s slogan, “Red Bull gives you wings”, played upon in well-known comedic adverts.
