Out of home consumption volume of Coke and Pepsi in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2017, by sugar content

Coke and Pepsi out of home consumption volume in the United Kingdom (UK) 2017 In 2017, Coca Cola and Pepsi sold a combined 446.8 million liters or roughly 179 full Olympic swimming pools full of cola of their classic and standard varieties. Both varieties each have a consumption volume that is over twice the consumption of their diet variety counterparts. Compared to the total out of home consumption of each brand, Pepsi Max was more often sold than Coke Zero.
The UK sugar levy

For Coke and Pepsi, the sugar free variants Zero and Max showed the biggest growth in the out of home market. Furthermore, the share of drinks with less than five gram sugar per 100ml of the overall soft drinks sales volume grew by six percent between 2015 and 2017. This might be due to the UK sugar levy which started on April 6th, 2018. However, initial government reports found no change in the average amount of sugar in products consumed out of home. Instead market changes might simply be due to consumer behavior. Food or drink that contains sugar is the number one product category British adults avoid when they try to eat healthier.

Cola and Pepsi on the UK Soft drink market

In 2018, Cola and Pepsi were the most two leading soft drink brands by grocery sales value in the UK, when excluding private label products. The market share of cola carbonates, arguably core products for both companies, on the soft drinks market shrank between 2015 and 2017.
