In 2023, there were a total of approximately 2.15 million individuals working at banks across the 27 European Union member states. Germany had by far the highest number of bank employees. It was followed by France, with roughly 389,000 employees in the banking sector. Latvia reported the lowest employee figure, with hardly more than 5,000 people working in the sector.
