In 2021, there were 245 outbreaks of food-borne diseases, up from 164 in the preceding year. While numbers have fluctuated, there has been a general increase in outbreaks over the years. As the year 2020 marked the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, lockdowns, and restrictions on dining out, the number of food-borne disease outbreaks was much lower than in previous years.
