Vodka market in the U.S. - Statistics & Facts
Smirnoff leads global market
The global market for vodka was worth about 49 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, up 4.46 compared to the previous year and surpassing pre-pandemic figures. Smirnoff is currently the world’s leading vodka brand by a wide margin. Sales volume reached 26 million cases, more than double that of number two, Tito's Handmade. Founded in Moscow in 1864, Smirnoff is produced by the British company Diageo, which is also the leading vodka supplier in the U.S., accounting for a 16.4 percent share of vodka sales volume in 2023.Tito's Handmade the U.S. favorite
Until 2022, vodka had generated the greatest sales volume within the U.S. spirits industry. Whiskey, with sales of 77.9 million cases, overtook vodka with its 76.9 million cases sold. That change proved to be short lived though as vodka regained first place in 2023 with 320,000 more cases sold than whiskey. The volume of vodka imported into the United States continued its downward trend, sinking to 24 million proof gallons while exports grew by an additional 50 percent in 2023 after 88 percent growth in 2022. Though it is the world leader, Smirnoff is the second leading vodka brand in the United States, accounting for an 11 percent share of vodka volume sales in 2023. In the reverse of worldwide sales, Tito's Handmade Vodka commanded the greatest share of the market at 15.5 percent.Despite the headwinds faced by alcoholic beverages more broadly, vodka is a perennial favorite with consumers that appears well poised to continue its command of the spirits market.
