Participants of adult education courses in Germany 2021, by program area
Language courses recorded the highest number of participants as far as German adult education courses in the Volkshochschulen was concerned, with almost 1.5 million participants. The German Volkhochschulen (VHS) are adult education centers. They are public institutions for adult and further education, where anyone can attend courses for a fee. Adult education centers are non-profit institutions and, in Germany, are assigned to the quaternary education area of continuing education. Contrary to their name, Hochschule, which means university, they are not universities.
